This is no prior qualifications required. However It’s a legal requirement for food companies to provide food safety training t o their staff.

The Level 2 Award in food safety in catering is designed for all employee’s and  can be tailored to suite business and individual needs to make the learning experience relevant and fit for purpose. The qualification has been designed to meet the needs of those who are entering the workplace for the first time, either as part of a work experience programme or at the start of employment, by providing an awareness of key food safety issues and the part that they should play in ensuring foods are safe for consumption by others, It will also benefit those who are starting a new job – as part of an induction programme.

Structure and learning outcomes

  • The Learning Outcomes: objectives of the course are:
  • Understand the principles of food safety in the catering industry  AND food safety management systems
  • Understand the importance of food safety standards and the legal implications.
  • Being able to identify specific food safety hazards and understand how this impacts on consumer.

  • Understand the importance of following systems procedures and rules
  • Understand how individual action can reduce risk of contamination
  • Understand and identify specific food bacteria and how they affect the human body

Assessment

The Level 2 Certificate is knowledge-based and will be assessed by means of an external assessment. Each unit is assessed by means of a 30 question, multi-choice examination
